Arriving ten days late is a bit much, even by my standards. Many apologies for keeping my readers waiting while I have been wrangling Saturn to the ground – or actually, the other way round. We are now in eclipse season so change is in the air, with the Autumn Equinox on September 22 (at 12.44 GMT) on of the four hinges of the solar year. Enjoy the season.

Virgo and Virgo rising
Up up and away! The new Moon of September 3 gives you lift off, and with ruler Mercury behaving again – it reaches the point where it turned backwards on September 15 – you should be in a position to settle on your future path, not least where your career is concerned. Jupiter – representing possibilities and expansion- remains at the top of your solar chart until summer 2025, meaning everything is to play for, while in the short term, money matters can be advantageously addressed.
There are, of course, a couple of catches. First among them is that Saturn remains in opposition, although now in retreat, and will be leaning in particular on birthdays between September 4 and 8 until Christmas to make tough decisions and generally streamline. The other planet in opposition – and has been for a small age – is Neptune, now lying opposite birthdays September 16 to 24, a warning to beware of empty glamour and fake news. Both planets are involved with the full Moon (a partial eclipse) opposite you on September 18 – this isn’t the moment for crucial decisions – eclipses rarely are – but it may prove to be a climactic one, when the way forward becomes apparent, even inevitable. Throughout the month, be around dynamic people – Mars insists. Happy Birthday.
Libra and Libra rising
Ring-a-ding-ding – sound those bells, both the ones on the toes of your well-appointed feet and those letting the world know you are in business. Ruler Venus is in your sign (and its own) until the 23rd, putting matters of good taste, fine company and romance hovering at the top of your get-to-it list and allowing you to be forceful without appearing so. On the same day Venus moves on, the Sun arrives to declare the Autumn Equinox and your birthday season, which with an eclipsed new Moon involved (on October 2) probably won’t be the most placid, while you may find resonances from six months back and the last eclipses in your own and opposite sign of Aries.
On the more public front, especially with your career, best find a way to advertise your talents while avoiding antagonising other people, a balance which may not prove possible. Mars at the peak of your ‘scope, and ongoing there until early November, is pushy rather than appeasing, and may rouse your confrontational side (the one Librans profess not to have). Meanwhile the eclipsed full Moon of October 18 asks you to find a just balance between work (and mere drudgery) and spiritual satisfaction (and mere escape); not simple.
Scorpio and Scorpio rising
The Virgo Sun is hitting several trigger points this year. Firstly, there is a pushy aspect to Jupiter, recently installed in your zone of assets (since June) and about to turn retrograde, hence a strong presence. Whether the giant planet has showered you with pennies (and Euros) from heaven (as it’s meant to do) or encouraged you to go on an ill-judged spending spree (which is also in its remit), September is when you are likely to find out. Your partner, should you have one, may be enmeshed in this situation (it may not even be your money). Attention called for.
A longer-term resident is Saturn in Pisces, which has to do with a reckoning in your personal or romantic life. The partial eclipsed full Moon in Pisces on September 18 may prove pivotal here, either because you feel you have had enough of a relationship and suffering at your partner’s behest, or because all things must pass. On the other hand, a cherished project may finally be reaching fruition. As mentioned before, the energies of planet Prometheus, which remains in opposition, are inclined to change, perhaps of the dramatic kind. The autumn equinox on September 23 brings a more contemplative, less stormy month ahead, but one with Venus in your skies, ready to make you star of the social whirl or turn up the dial on your romantic life.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius rising
An eventful month is promised by a hatful of stars in which your ruler, Jupiter, is featured strongly. Partnerships of all stripes continue to look beneficial – unless, that is, you have decided to dispense with a relationship altogether and make a break for freedom – with opportunities to rub shoulders with some swell types. With Venus also handily placed for social runnings, you shouldn’t be short of good company and a dash of flirtation.
The new Moon of September 3 is a more cold-blooded affair, being focused on your career, and how to prise open a new chapter therein. The Full Moon of the 18th (an eclipse) may bring clarity here but even if not, your cohort of fellow travellers and colleagues look ultra-supportive this month and next, as first Venus and then the Sun and Mercury transit airy Libra; be collegiate. The full Moon may signal a time to be hard-nosed about your career, but also about your living arrangements or anything to do with property.
Capricorn and Capricorn rising
Autumn is an eventful time for most signs, but especially so for the Goat, for whom the Equinox represents a further change to climb a further stage up the professional mountain. Venus cresting your sola ‘scope as the month begins suggests a charm offensive to soften up the ground ready for a more determined effort in October, when an eclipsed new Moon dominates your horoscope. Work is rarely a four-letter word for Capricorns, and with Jupiter in your zone of everyday graft – rather than showboating as a bigwig with huge responsibilities – it looks especially rewarding just now.
The picture is multi-dimensional, however. Mars moves into opposition from September 5 until early November, asking you to find a just balance in partnerships (either that or put up with being on the wring end of arguments) whether those are romantic or businesslike. But here too, things are not straightforward; the wayward planet Prometheus remains in your zone of romance, and though said planet is now in retreat, and going over old ground, is still forceful when aspected – as it is at the full Moon of September 18 and again during October, when Venus becomes a player in your affairs. Eyes wide open then.
Aquarius and Aquarius rising
There is a flurry of activity across your financial axis in September, including an eclipsed full Moon on September 18 – this is not enough to merit alarm but a cue to get steely-eyed about money matters, including those in which you have a part share (mortgages for example). That full Moon may also relate to partnerships rather than assets, and the resolution of ongoing issues one way or another.
Otherwise, these remain upbeat times astrologically, with Jupiter resplendent in Gemini and your fifth house of self-worth and achievement – a particularly handy transit for those in the creative arts. Think big and bold. In the third air sign – aside from Gemini and your own – comes Venus in Libra, followed by Mercury and the Sun at the Autumn Equinox, completing a dynamic triangle which you might mistake for ‘normal’ times rather than the opportunity push yourself and (most importantly) your ideas forward. These, by the way, are all humanitarian signs and may find a public response. Pluto, a zeitgeist marker, just slipped out of your skies but will back in the Urn Bearer come the new year.
Pisces and Pisces rising
Is the mood intense? You can rely on a stationary Saturn to turn the dial up a notch or two, especially for birthdays circa March 6, plus you have a new Moon opposite you on March 3 with a full Moon – eclipsed – in your own skies on September 18. Turning up the intensity that little bit more is your ruling planet, Jupiter, lying square at the root of your chart.
With so much going on, there’s a feeling of change in the air, not necessarily for the worst – Pisces, after all, is the most accomplished sign when change is demanded. And the eclipse may spell accomplishment for long-sustained efforts rather than mere disruption. Keep calm and tick off the tasks one by one – Mercury is still playing catch up with you until mid-month. Plus, romance is in the air – the Venus-Jupiter link on the 15th spells happy days in an Indian Summer, while Mars in your fellow water sign of Cancer gives you the opportunity to throw your weight around…in the most charming manner of course… not least in the pursuit of romance.
Aries and Aries rising
A strong streak of times past runs through the combination of Saturn in your twelfth house and ruler Mars in your fourth; regret for things you did and more regret for things you haven’t done yet, ancient family issues and grudges, wounds that never quite heal – tired old stuff that you can’t seem to shake off. The eclipsed full Moon of the 18th is freighted with it! There are several cures on offer. One is to search out bright company – old or new friends, current crushes, even old flames – while Venus passes through your relationship zone (Libra) until September 23, to be followed by Sun, Mercury, an eclipsed new Moon (October 2) and an Aries full Moon (October 17). Experience may have shown you that the post equinox-month – with Sun in opposition – rarely finds you at your strongest. Partnerships help. A fresh coat of paint in Aries Towers may also scare away the ghosties.
Further working in your favour is Jupiter, planet of plenty and big (if not always practical) ideas. An upgrade to your comms systems is one obvious step to take. along with a determination that people hear what you have to offer (as an Aries you are unlikely to be short of that). Enterprise, trade, wheeler-dealing, academia, reading, writing, ad other smart alec stuff is part of the Jupiterian package. It’s still early days for the giant planet to deliver for you – it’s around until June 2025, but September and October are good for putting down a marker (skip the eclipses, though).
Taurus and Taurus rising
Onwards, steadily onwards. Unless you have been at the end of a Promethean lightning bolt – not unlikely if your birthday is circa May 17 – your horoscope is all in favour of your customary unhurried and considered approach. The Sun and Mercury in Virgo are all obliging, with only the eclipsed full Moon in Pisces to disturb orderly progress, perhaps marking the end of a professional cycle. Work is moving up the agenda as the month progresses, as first ruler Venus and then the Sun transit your zone of ingenuity and effort. Helping you move things right along and getting on lively terms with clever people who can help you, is mars in Cancer, active right through to November and in September especially helpful to April birthdays.
From September 26 your undisputed ruler Venus moves into Scorpio, and therefore in opposition – the planet of relationships in the zone of relationships, where you can mend fences with people with whom you have fallen out, pursue fresh chums and lovers, or strengthen what you already have. Whichever way it is, love is the air.
Gemini and Gemini rising
Your horoscope has a pleasingly purposeful air to it. At least one hopes it is pleasing – with Saturn square your sign (especially early June birthdays), one can never be certain what’s on offer is a reward for hard work or another battle on the property front. The eclipsed full moon of the 18th should make things clearer. Nonetheless, Saturn going backwards means it’s likely to be issues already on the table, not new developments. Your Mercury ruler is still in catch-up from its retrograde, so you may have to chase others for decisions and payments.
On a more personal level, September’s stars promise something fresh. You already have big-hearted Jupiter coursing through your skies – bring on the money and the travel freebies – and until the 23d you have Venus at a delightful aspect to your sign – there’s a magic ‘trine’ between the two on the weekend of the 14th when pleasure must come first. Venus in airy Libra is followed by the Sun (from the 23rd and Mercury (from the 26th) in the Scales, both aspecting Jupiter in October – live it up. If you are looking for a lover, now’s the time!
Cancer and Cancer rising
Six weeks of Mars passing through your skies isn’t a promise of easy wins, more a case of sharpening your appetites and making your competitive spirit keener. A time for accomplishment then, though the trick is your intentions and focus steady – sudden bursts of enthusiasm have a limited effect, especially when you are up against long term problems – as you will be with Saturn in the mix. The planetary picture is not unkind, however. the Sun and Mercury in Virgo make allies easy to find, and the eclipsed full Moon (your planet) on the 18th promises settlement on an old (maybe age-old) issue.
The season of Libra brings home and hearth into fresh focus, whether it’s ‘just’ a spruce-up of Cancer Manor – with an eclipse imminent here a more major overhaul is implied – or a victory for a member of the family. Venus’s shift into watery Scorpio on the 23rd reheats the flames of your romantic life, or if that has gone oddly missing, some fresh candidates for your favours. The other ‘benefic’ planet, Jupiter, remains keen on mind/body/sprit pursuits – a useful balance to Martian energies.
Leo and Leo rising
Friends and neighbours are often hymned but mostly taken for granted (you can’t fret about everyone!). In September and October, however, your circle of support deserves more of your time and appreciation and can be leant on to help you through life’s little and large challenges. The combination of planets responsible (Jupiter and Venus) are also keen on intellectual pursuits for those of you interested and able to locate a mentor or two.
The other theme etched into the current planetary picture remains finances. Sorry to bang on about the distasteful subject of money but with Saturn at the centre of events this month, not least at the partial eclipsed full Moon of the 18th, a furrowed brow over the royal spreadsheet looks inescapable. It isn’t just a matter of cash in and cash out, it’s the emotional toll that money matters involve – the full Moon suggests a settlement can finally be found.
Want to know the Key Astrology Dates 2024 to help you plan ahead?
My webmaster, fellow astrologer and friend Pam Carruthers has compiled 2 FREE REPORTS. The New and Full Moons in 2024, followed by the Mercury Retrograde and Eclipses Report.
The most important days in the entire year to avoid launching any new projects are the days of the Solar and Lunar eclipses and the days when Mercury goes Retrograde.
The Karmic Axis
Eclipses are major turning points in the year. In astrology they are indicated by the nodes of the Moon. The Lunar nodes aren’t planets. Eclipses happen when there is an alignment with the Sun, the Moon and the Earth. When these are aligned eclipses occur, which happen twice a year.
The Moon’s Nodes form an axis in astrology, which in our birth chart is said to represent one’s destiny or spiritual quest in life. The North Node points to a key lesson in our lives. It represents new experiences towards which we must aim during this life. We have already learnt the skills of its opposite point, the South Node, in the past. Now we must grow and stretch ourselves through the North Node.
In the birth chart this polarity indicates your past life (south node) and destiny (north node). This is known as the Karmic Axis. So the people born in that time span are our Soul group. In approx. 19 years the cycle repeats, so people born 19 years apart from us share the same lunar node sign, and are also aligned to our Soul group.
Eclipses 2024 are times for a major reboot
In 2024 the transiting North node is in Aries, the south node is in Libra. The theme will focus us on our relationships.
To sum up, eclipses are powerful new or full moons. Ideal for rituals and meditation but not good for parties, weddings, or any celebrations.
