Extraordinary times arrive with extraordinary astrology, and while the world’s most pressing crises – wars in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan to name but three – predate the current planetary picture, recent political turbulence is in line with what’s been signalled by the retrogrades and eclipses of early 2025. The change of sign by Neptune (March 30th) and Saturn (May 25th) suggests there are more shocks to come, and since all planets barring Pluto are moving forwards (to earthly eyes) a degree of impatience is in place.
Here in the UK Mayday has arrived in suitably glorious weather. Let loose the Morris dancers!

Taurus and Taurus rising
Consider this year’s birthday season as extending across two months. In May you can get down to work on the momentum of the new Moon of April 27th, with special reference to matters domestic and familial, where Mars is creating something of a fuss, even if it’s just the builders under your feet. Mercury dashes through your sign (11-25) to keep your voice heard. The full Moon of the 12th brings changes to partnerships, and with Prometheus hyper-active in your skies for May and June, your choice of dancing partner may surprise even yourself. Taureans don’t relish change but you may have no choice, especially if you are a birthday circa May 15th.
With Jupiter strong in your cash zone, the promise of windfalls is in the air as the month progresses – finding them is another matter. In June your totem planet Venus finally reaches your skies after months of indecision, which looks like a personal coronation or at the least the perfect excuse for a late party. Happy Birthday!
Gemini and Gemini rising
You may need to fight for your reputation. Saturn is in its final phase atop your solar chart and asking you to finalise – as near as you can – major professional issues. One last heave please. Fellow travellers come in an assortment of sizes meanwhile -people with whom you can (and perhaps must) do business. You are on a countdown to the 20th, when the might Sun arrives to recharge Gemini affairs, with a new Moon here on 27th (birthday of the month).
Jupiter is also in its final phase in The Twins (until June 10th), meaning you can take a chance when bragging about your assets and abilities, especially once ruler Mercury arrives on the 26th to polish your silver-tongued skills. Jupiter is ‘lucky’ but also suggests how you can expand and improve your situation. Is there anything truly holding you back? Look again and the answer may be, nothing much. Plus, the giant planet likes to throw parties of Gatsby-like proportions. Just an idea. Happy Birthday!
Cancer and Cancer rising
Your horoscope has a new look to it, now that Neptune is at its very peak. What’s more, it will have an even greater overhaul by the end of May, when Saturn also moves atop your ‘scope, with Jupiter moving into your own sign in early June. Some big changes are on the way, especially for those born at the very beginning and very end of your sign (or if you have planets there).
Patience must therefore prevail in May, though not too much of it. Planets in Taurus and Pisces make a handy fit while you recalibrate your masterplan and favour running round eagerly rather than being a homebody. There’s a handy dash of romance in the mix too, thanks to a passionate full Moon on the 12th, when ruler Luna makes a potentially thrilling opposition to Prometheus and ideas about who might make a good fit are up for sudden and sweeping revision.
Leo and Leo rising
Mars in your skies is running things in May, but while you may feel that you are in charge, Mars can always do with a pause and a second thought before you take a plunge. Your horoscope is, however, certainly open to new initiatives, not least professionally, with your Sun ruler making a potent conjunction to Prometheus at the mid-month full Moon, when bolts from the blue are likely to materialise: a new career in a new town, even. What you don’t need are mean little squabbles that are below your nobler self.
Given the imminent planetary changes, birthdays between July 23-28 and 19-22 August are those in the line for ructions and opportunities, but all Leos should feel the hands of destiny move on this month. Plus, with Venus in splendid contact with Mars throughout the month, romance is never far away. Give a little whistle.
Virgo and Virgo rising
Like it or not, the current planetary set-up is dragging you along with it, as events this month and next should prove. With the two major planets Saturn and Jupiter about to change sign, some of those events may even seem ‘fated’ – that’s for you to decide – but both planets call for a resolution to long-standing conflicts/uncertainties. Saturn shifting out of opposition for several months allows you to catch your breath and rejig professional commitments. A long-standing partnership may also come under scrutiny, either because the pressure of Saturn in opposition drops, or because you have tried everything and realise it’s time to abandon ship.
The action in fellow earth sign Taurus is beneficial and encourages a mood of exploration and adventure – getting away from it all as the saying goes. The season of Gemini, starting on May 20th with a new Moon following on the 27th puts you in the limelight – with big-hearted Jupiter already here, atop your ‘scope, you have the chance of glory and recognition. Make it so.
Libra and Libra rising
Your Venus ruler will have led some of you a none too merry dance this year, being in and out of opposition, with resultant twists and turns in at least one particular relationship, likely of a romantic hue. Five weeks – count ’em – with Venus opposing you is now a call to settle things one way or another; either a romance can be rekindled or it’s time to seek something more vibrant, which given the breathless mood elsewhere in your ‘scope deserves exploration. Neptune conjoined with Venus in the first week of the month urges caution about any sob stories you are spun – not everyone has your interests at heart however ‘compatible’ you are.
Planets in fellow air signs are all for change and exploration, Pluto in Aquarius is at a halt and draws one phase of the year to an end, while Jupiter in Gemini is entering its last, beneficent flourish in Gemini, wildly in favour of bigger ideas, fresh horizons and serendipitous encounters. Are you up for all that? The Sun in Gemini and the new Moon of the 27th call for a more than half-hearted response.
Scorpio and Scorpio rising
There isn’t much simple about your horoscope in May. The Sun in your opposite number, Taurus, puts you on the back foot for starters. You may not have the usual Scorpio energy to burn. Plus, relations could get rocky at mid-month when a full Moon arrives in your skies to spark up your more gothic tendencies. Not everything has to be high drama! However, with the Sun conjoining Prometheus around the same time, crazed scenes of infatuation and desertion are not to be ruled out.
Your ruling planet, Mars, is also in volatile mood but its position atop your solar chart call for keen focus on career matters, where you can ride high providing your agree to let some arguments be won by other people. From somewhere afar you may also detect the tinkling sound of money. Jupiter is ringing that sound more clearly as May goes on – if only you can detect where it’s coming from.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius rising
So, moving swiftly on – as you will be in May – it may be hard to ascertain just where to focus. Your horoscope provides a diverse picture, with mighty shifts of sign by Neptune and Saturn in the mix – acutely in your case, both occupying fellow fire sign Aries, which governs many of life’s delights; amorous walks, quality artworks, medal-winning sports events, loud parties and quiet times with children. Plus, for the next five weeks you have fair Venus in a happy place, at the least demanding that you lead the uproar at any social events. This being the romance planet, heavy crushes may also be in play.
But first Saturn completes its passage across the root of your ‘scope on the 25th, urging you to complete any or all official documents, property deals and employment contracts. Projects – you will have a few – need resolution wherever possible. The other major planet in play in early summer is ruler Jupiter, now completing a year long haul in opposition, but especially active now, with the Sun and a new Moon (on the 27th) moving alongside the friendly giant gas ball and its umpteen Moons. Time to leave something or somebody behind.
Capricorn and Capricorn rising
It will take time to process the implications of your totem planet, Saturn, moving to the root of your ‘scope, as it does on the 25th. A change of home or work? Maybe. You have years to find out. First, however, deal with the issues that have preoccupied you these last two years as Saturn has moved through Pisces, a more simpatico transit than what’s on offer from Aries, albeit still weighty. Ensure you have the rights to intellectual property, and to whatever tech enables your work.
Meanwhile here comes May, full of verdancy and joy, as the Sun moves through your fifth house of play. Shove aside the duty call when possible. You may also choose to take a road less travelled when the Sun conjoins Prometheus on the 17th, a good time to be full of surprises.
Aquarius and Aquarius rising
Congratulations, you have survived a year or so with Pluto in your skies and said planet is now at a halt. Only another 19 years to go – a doddle, unless that is, you have just had a bust-up with a friend or partner. Mars is in opposition and Pluto’s involvement may have brought a meltdown. Even if not, best tiptoe round difficult people and issues rather than confront them. Your horoscope is otherwise benign rather than awkward. A month of Venus in Aries promises to ginger up your social life, especially once the Sun arrives in Gemini on the 20th, followed by a new Moon on the 27th – for you this is the zone of pleasure and creativity, behave accordingly. Jupiter, already strong in this zone, promises good times as you head into June.
The full Moon of the 12th pulls domestic issues to the fore, not least because it’s followed by the Sun meeting Prometheus. This is the planet of disruption and surprise – many astrologers will tell you that it’s also your ruling celestial body, others prefer your traditional ruler, Saturn. An abrupt change in how you organise your home life is one possible outcome; unexpected guests and departures may figure. Saturn’s change of sign toward the end of the month may also bring change. It seems you have a skin to slough off, some baggage to shed, perhaps even a person or two to lose.
Pisces and Pisces rising
And then there were none – planets in your sign that is. That will be the case once Saturn leaves Pisces on May 25th. While the taskmaster planet will be back for a few months this autumn, its departure now is significant. Firstly asking for you to despatch unfinished business (with a capital ‘B’ – we are talking money, trade, property) so that you may enjoy the summer unencumbered by duty. Instead comes a brighter mood where new skills come calling, along with new people with whom to share them.
Saturn’s new position in Aries, alongside recently departed Neptune, is in the zone of cash flow, and providing you are not talked into some crazy ponzi scheme – Neptune remains a dangerous ally- the steady acquisition of assets. Jupiter, your true ruling planet, remains focused on home, hearth and family and the joys that derive therefrom. This planet, too, is about to move on in June, to your benefit, but first the fan call for full attention.
Aries and Aries rising
This looks like an unusually magnificent May, being crowned by the presence of Venus, planet of lovers, camaraderie and the finer things in life – art, for example. Your mission under Venus is simply to enjoy yourself, but an enlargement of your friendship circle and knocking out the odd canvas/hit record are also in the mix should you choose to pursue them. Your undisputed ruling planet, Mars, is splendidly aligned from fiery Leo to maximise what is possible, including a hot moment for romance around the 20th. Don’t resist the urge to shout out – the ram does it so well, after all.
Simultaneously comes the season of Taurus and the chance to add to your material prosperity – one tactic here is not to spend in the way that Venus likes, especially round the week of the 12th and its accompanying full Moon. On the 25th Saturn arrives in your skies for a test run of several months before the ringed planet takes up full residence next February. No need to panic; au contraire, Saturn likes calm, planning and focus, but those of you with birthdays around the Spring Equinox should be prepared.
